Meet Your Teacher
Dr. Declan Cathcart
Dr Declan Cathcart has worked as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in molecular microbiology in various industry labs and universities in the UK and Ireland for 10 years, and has taught Biology in schools for the last 25 years.
Since 2019, Declan has also been a lecturer in science education in University College Dublin. He has worked with Oide since 2016 and has developed and delivered numerous CPD workshops for teachers in Ireland and other European countries.
He is a member of the National Steering Committee of Science on Stage (SonS) Ireland, and has collaborated with teachers on a variety of international projects through SonS In the last 10 years, Declan has worked closely with Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Ireland and was a recipient of the first global ABE Master Teacher Fellowships in 2021, helping to develop teaching and learning lab modules in molecular biology for secondary schools in Ireland and abroad.
Declan is the author of the recent book The Science of Life, published by CJ Fallon, for the new Leaving Certificate Biology specification. Declan is Head of Biology at The Tuition Centre, having been with TTC since the start.

Free webinar for Biology teachers "Guiding your students through the Biology in Practice Investigation (AAC)".
Dr Declan Cathcart will share his experience of the BiP process he has started with his own 5th year students to date, and provide tips for teachers on how to deal with each of the early stages.
He will also be sharing a resource that he has developed to support students through the stages of the BiP AAC. This resource has been designed by Declan to help students (and their teachers) to comprehensively address each step of the BiP process, ultimately supporting them in submitting as strong a final AAC student report as possible.
