Meet Your Teacher
Michael Quinn
Michael Quinn is a music graduate of Trinity College Dublin and holds Master’s degrees in organ performance (Royal Conservatory, The Hague) and musicology (King’s College London). He studied piano, organ, and music theory at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and holds AMusTCL and ARIAM diplomas in music theory and harmony.
A prizewinner at Feis Ceoil and Feis Maitiú, he has performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, and leading Irish musicians.
He co-founded Louisburgh Music School, where he teaches theory for LC students, musicianship and piano. He regularly accompanies JC and LC students for music practical exams, ABRSM exams, auditions and recitals.
Michael is also co-founder of Dublin Sound Lab, dedicated to commissioning and premiering new electroacoustic works.

What will be covered
✭ Understand how to read and write music notation confidently, on Treble and Bass clefs
✭ Understand and recognise standard rhythmic notation, and how to group notes
in simple time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)
✭ Understand standard Italian terms for dynamics and tempo
✭ Understand the structure of Major and Harmonic Minor scales
✭ Be able to identify Key Signatures up to 4 sharps & flats
✭ Confidently compose 4-bar Rhythms and 4-bar Melodies in Major keys
✭ Be able to identify and write standard intervals, Primary chords in Major keys and Cadences
✭ Relate all of these concepts to the Leaving Cert Music Composing Paper
